Nokia seem to be looking at the N800 as a WiMax device and a report on Linux Devices are that a new updated version will be one of the first devices on the Mobile WiMax network from Clearwire/Sprint.

Maemo.org reports that a new version with lots of enhancements, including Skype support, has been released.
Nokia has just announced an update to the Internet Tablet OS 2007 edition, feature upgrade release is now available for download. The update (version number 4.2007.26-8) includes Skype client support, Adobe® Flash® 9 browser plug-in, improvements in online use times and single memory card support up to 8 GB. Also delightful new pre-installed content is available.
To check the version number of the current software on your device, Go to Tools > Control panel > About product.
You can update the software on your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet using your compatible Windows PC (see also the instructions for Linux ). Hook up your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet to your computer and launch the Internet Tablet Software Update wizard. The wizard will automatically update your device with the latest software release. If you have not yet installed the Internet Tablet Software update wizard onto your computer, please see instructions at http://nokia.com/support

I had a chance to see a beta version of Skype on the Nokia N800 yesterday in New York City before my flight. I promised to keep it under wraps until the Digital Experience happened.
It looks like Skype and seems to function like Skype. Only thing I noticed that seemed to be different is the lack of video.

Ken Camp relates to traveling with all that he carries in his technology arsenal in a recent post. He describes the reaction to having a Nokia N800 Internet Tablet with him on the plane. She bring a whole different demographic and geographic mix to us, so we couldn't resist with the way she now describes herself as a VCM, short for Very Cool Mom.

It looks like Mr. Blog has been having fun finding both faults and wonderful features inside the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.
David is busy finding out that he can run real Linux apps and do all kinds of real Internet functions on it, proving that for different people the N800 has all kinds of utility and uses. He reports some bugs with GizmoProject and laments that not enough of his friends are using GTalk...all while sitting in the Jury Room of his local courthouse.
